Water springtails are scavengers living on the surface of still waters.  Its spring-like furcula is large and flattened, allowing the animal to jump without breaking the surface tension of the water.  Poduridea deposit eggs on the watersurface. The eggs are hydrophilic and immediately sink to the bottom to develop.
